Statement by Commissioner Füle following the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Mr Nikola Poposki

I had a productive meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Mr Nikola Poposki, in which we discussed our future cooperation following the publication of the Progress Report.

The renewed Commission Recommendation to start accession negotiations recognises the work of the government. However further efforts are needed to address core challenges. We now look forward to working with the new government, which can bring new momentum. The core challenges concern freedom of expression in the media, reform of the judiciary, public administration reform and the fight against corruption. Dialogue between the political forces needs to be strengthened. As regards the economy, structural reforms need to continue to address high unemployment whilst maintaining macro-economic stability. Regarding the acquis, the country needs to address shortcomings in effectively implementing legislation.

I look forward to the government responding concretely to the findings of the Progress Report by adopting an Action Plan and revising the National Plan for the Adoption of the Acquis.

The Commission aims to deepen the cooperation on the above issues this autumn, notably through a High Level Accession Dialogue and an Economic Policy Conference.

Maintaining good neighbourly relations, including a negotiated and mutually acceptable solution to the name issue, under the auspices of the UN, remains essential. The Commission underlines the need for redoubling efforts to find a solution without further delay.

  1. Ooooo pure Commissioner Müle ! ,
You’re so naive to think that we are naive.
Everyone who believes the Top-Liar and top-discriminator country is also a liar and fascist (the only logic is that the “bankrupt” greeks bribe you with some stolen Turkish island)
You can’t change the identity of one nation –
Macedonians will always be Macedonians and
will speak Macedonian language, talk about that Müle – how European “democracy” is discriminating Macedonians, that’s why you will bankrupt soon as your liar partner, because you’re liars to, you are the biggest fascists that ever existed.

    REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA
    MACEDONIANS, MACEDONIAN LANGUAGE
    !!!!!!! ALWAYS !!!!!!!

  2. Mr.Fule,if you are man enough answere the following;why in the world did you ommitt Macedonias name and language on the annual EU report?

Are you not ashamed to continue pimping for Greece?

Don’t you know that Greece is illigally occupying part of Macedonia since 1913?

What is there you don’t understand Mr.Fule?

Have you not read the agreement of 1995 where the Republic of Macedonia signed with Greece on border issue?

How many times the indigenouse Macedonians have to appear in Brussels courts againts the Greek government for breaking all Human Rights?

Why a EU member state Greece allows the clergy to organize demonstrations againts its Macedonian people on the occassion of starting a radio station in the macedonian language?.

If EU is truly a democratic union, and observes its constitution,Greece should be kicked out of this union.

  3. Slavomacedonia. It is an accurate name, it doesn’t humiliate any or the parties and it solves the name problem for well.

Slavomacedonians shall realize that they are not anyhow connected to Macedonians of Alexander the Great.
