Vaughan agrees to head NZ cricket till Jan 2012

The outgoing chief executive of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Justin Vaughan, has agreed to remain till mid to late January to ensure the sport has a leader for the first half of the season.

NZC chairman Chris Moller said several factors had come into play; most notably that Vaughan’s replacement won’t be able to start at the drop of a hat.

“We had this option with Justin and he has been very good and flexible about it. Someone might have to give three months notice and the employer might want to hold them to that. Sometimes they release them at an earlier juncture,” Moller said.

Vaughan has a new role with Southern Cross Healthcare but the start date is relaxed.

“They [Southern Cross] have been very fair and helpful and flexible. He will do a few days of work for them in December, but they are prepared to grant him some flexibility.

“Justin is adamant he wants to leave on good terms, which is a huge credit to him,” Moller said.

Moller said the delay should not be interpreted as meaning NZC had someone in their sights who was available mid-January, stuff.co.nz reports.
