New Year Message from the Vice President of Philippines – Jejomar C. Binay

Another year has just passed and while we look back to celebrate our triumphs, let us also recall the events that have united us as a people, extending our charity and our compassion to the less fortunate.

In light of the devastation that has displaced thousands of our countrymen in the Visayas and Mindanao, let me enjoin everyone to cast aside their differences and work together in helping our brothers and sisters rebuild not only their homes but their lives.

For us in the housing sector, we commit ourselves to doubling our efforts to provide decent, affordable and climate-resilient homes, and fast-track the rebuilding of homes for the survivors of Sendong through partnerships with local government units and private organizations.

Likewise, we will intensify our fight for the protection of Overseas Filipino Workers and step up the drive against human trafficking and illegal recruitment.

I hope that the passing of another year will encourage all of us to reflect on our thoughts and deeds, and welcome the new year with a greater resolve to do what is right, not only for ourselves but for our fellow Filipinos as well.

I wish everyone a New Year of hope.
