NHS Inpatient and outpatient events
The following statistics were released today by the Department of Health:
NHS inpatient and outpatient waiting: elective admission events occurring during the quarter ending 30 June 2010
The key points from the latest release are:
Inpatient Events
The number of decisions to admit has increased by 99,000 (7.9%) to 1.3 million since the equivalent quarter last year. Similarly, the number of admissions from the list has increased by 92,000 (8.3%) to 1.2 million since the equivalent quarter last year.
Outpatient Referrals and attendances
In quarter 1 of 2010-11:
The number of GP referrals made has increased by 169,000 (6.0%) to 3.0 million against the same period last year. The number of other referrals made has increased by 136,000 (8.7%) to 1.7 million against Q1 2009-10.
First attendances at consultant outpatient clinics have increased by 181,000 (4.6%) to 4.1 million and total attendances increased by 551,000 (4.5%) to 12.7 million compared to the equivalent quarter of 2009-10.
Did not attend (DNA) rates have remained the same this quarter compared to the equivalent quarter of 2009/10. This quarter, the percentage of patients who did not attend for their first outpatient attendance is 8.5% which shows no change against the equivalent quarter of 2009-10.
