National Grid is gearing up for the latest phase of its essential gas mains replacement project in Greenford.

Work is due to begin on Monday 13 September in Bilton Road to replace 300 metres of old metal gas mains with new hard-wearing plastic pipes. A further 1km of gas mains are also being replaced in Wadsworth Road.

Wherever possible the new pipes will be inserted through the old gas mains, minimising the need for digging and reducing disruption. Temporary traffic lights and traffic restrictions will be in place where necessary and all will be fully signposted.

Local people who would like more information can call our customer helpline on 0845 246 1285.
The project also includes upgrades to business and domestic gas service pipes. Engineers will need access to properties to carry out this work and we will contact those affected in advance to make arrangements. All engineers carry photo identification, and people should always ask to see official identification before letting anyone into their property. If in doubt about the caller’s identity, please call 0845 605 6677.

National Grid project engineer Robert Benn said: “The new pipes should last for many years, ensuring that the local community continues to enjoy safe, secure and reliable gas supplies in future decades.

”We are doing all we can to minimise disruption and we apologise for any inconvenience our essential work may cause.”

Work will be carried out by National Grid in partnership with Morrison Utility Services and should be completed by early next year.

The work is part of a project to replace 10km of iron gas mains in Greenford through National Grid’s national gas mains replacement programme. Agreed in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive this involves replacing all metal gas mains within 30 metres of buildings.
