Tourism is becoming more and more important every minute. It can be job and even hobby now-a-days. I think it is true to say that when business leaders think about ways to grow the economy of city or country, then tourism often is near the top of the list.
The point is that tourism impacts the economy. Directly, it generates jobs and can serve as a lifeline for many people. Indirectly, tourism can serve as a catalyst for improving infrastructure, which in turn makes a community a more desirable place to live and work.
During the last four decades tourism has become one of the world's largest and fastest growing industries. As an industry, tourism directly and indirectly generated and supported two hundred and four million jobs world-wide by now, equivalent to more than 10% of the workforce of the world.
Tourism is great economic importance and new tourism areas are constantly being developed, implying that consumers have even more destinations available to choose from when going on vacation. Moreover, people are travelling increasingly, among other things due to more flexible working hours and rising levels of disposable income. Furthermore, transportation networks have become more efficient which makes it possible to travel to any destination in the world within relatively few hours.
The growing importance of tourism implies that national tourism boards around the world face intensive competition in the battle of attracting tourists. Therefore, tourism marketers are faced with the challenge of developing new and different marketing strategies that will differentiate a destination from its competitors.
Hence - tourism involves a wide range of activities, places and businesses, promoting tourism in a city, region or country.
